This trip is designed to get to the flowers from a new direction and includes a visit to the interesting town of Orania and Kimberley. This trip is designed to be a shorter trip with lots of flowers and beautiful scenery with a dash of history.
Day 1: 07h00 : Distance for the day 478 Km
We depart early at 07h00 from Johannesburg on the N12 towards Kimberley via Potchefstroom where we will have lunch. We continue on with the N12 via Klerksdorp and Bloemhof towards Kimberley where we check in to the Kimberley Ann Guesthouse. We check in and then explore Kimberley. Dinner at the Guesthouse
Day 2: 08h00 : Distance for the day 160 Km
This morning we enjoy breakfast and then do a tour of the Big Hole. This is going to be an interesting day. Continuing with the N12 via Hopetown and then stop in in Orania where we have lunch in town and then check in to the hotel next to the Orange River and do a short tour with a local guide of the town. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: 07h30 : Distance for the day 316km
A bit of a long day ahead but we will be travelling to Carnarvon, stopping on the way for lunch. In Carnarvon we will visit the town museum and enjoy a Karoo lamb dinner at Magrieta Botha’s Guest House.
Day 4: 08h00: Distance for the day: 244km
Breakfast and off again to Calvinia but it is a scenic route and we will stop on route for lunch and toilet stops. So after an early breakfast at 07H30 we depart for Calvinia.
On arrival in Calvinia we check in to one of the Hantam homes restored by Alta & Erwin and this should be quite an experience. The rest of the day at leisure visiting the meat festival at Calvinia with dinner at the festival and enjoying live music by local musicians.
Day 5: 09h00 : Distance for the day: 80 Km
After breakfast, we explore the town and surrounding area as Calvinia is also known for its wild flowers and beautiful scenery. Lunch in town and the afternoon at leisure visiting the meat festival.
Dinner in Calvinia town or at the guest house.
Day 6: 09h00 : Distance for the day: 120 Km
After breakfast we depart for Nieuwoudtville and also visit the Hantam national botanical garden. This is a lovely stop and we will have lunch in Nieuwoudtville. In the afternoon we visit the Nieuwoudtville wild flower reserve. An incredible 1350 species of plants have been identified in the area, including a range of rare and endangered species of flowers.
Later in the day we check in to the Letsatsi Lodge in VanRhynsdorp for the next two nights. Dinner at the restaurant.
Day 7: 09h00 : Distance for the day: 140 Km
We visit Lutzville today for some winetasting at the Lutzville winery and lunch at Doringbaai at Fryer’s Cove, the only vineyard in the world so close to the Atlantic Ocean. Flowers are usually all along the roads and we will stop to see some close up. Rest of the afternoon at leisure at Letsatsi Lodge. Dinner at the Red Ox restaurant.
Day 8: 09h00 : Distance for the day: 250 Km
Travelling to Clanwilliam today where we will spend time in town visiting the Ramskop flower reserve. After lunch we travel to Langebaan where we will stay for the next 2 nights At the Rocks Guesthouse
Day 9 : Distance for the day: 60 Km
Today we visit the Western Cape National Park that boasts a beautiful display of wild flowers. We spend the day here and stay At the Rocks Guesthouse.
Day 10: Distance for the day: 140 Km
Today is out last day and after breakfast we depart for Cape Town International for your return flight to Johannesburg. You will be met by one of our colleagues at JHB international for your transfer home.
