A rich diversity of birdlife abounds on the farm where agriculture is practised in harmony with birds, antelope and an abundance of frog and insect life. The fertile farmland in KwaZulu-Natal boasts numerous oxbow lakes, with the flood plains of the Yarrow and Karkloof rivers, which creates ideal habitat for waterfowl and all three species of Crane which are regularly seen here.

Nelson Mandela Capture site

This powerful memorial marks the place where Nelson Mandela, was captured on August 5, 1962. He had been on the run for 17 months and his capture marked the beginning of his 27 years in captivity. A small museum exhibits old photographs and traces Madiba’s political path through the years. The sculpture is truly amazing! As you walk nearer and nearer to the sculpture, Mandela’s face appears from the jagged steel rods. Artist, Marco Cianfanelli designed the rods so that each of the 50 rods line up to create the illusion of a flat image, the face of South Africa’s beloved, Nelson Mandela.

We book into our Guesthouse for the next 2 nights.
