  • Day 1: Sunday 8 November

We travel along the N3 via Heidelberg, Harrismith and the van Reenen’s pass. After travelling through the pass, we turn towards the mountains and the town of Bergville. It is a very scenic route, travelling through real rural countryside. Lunch will be enjoyed on route. We arrive in the mid-afternoon at the lovely Montusi Mountain Lodge for a 3-night’ stay. Enjoy the views of the Mountain from the rooms, especially at sunset.

    Day 2+3: Monday 9 + Tuesday 10 November

Montusi Mountain Lodge is situated very centrally to visit various parts of the mountain. This will include a trip to the Champagne Castle and Cathedral Peak region in the central part. We will visit the Monks Cowl reserve, with an opportunity to do some hiking as well. On route home from this region, we will also visit the Bird of Prey Centre, and see the wonderful work done with these rehabilitated birds.

On another trip we will also do a trip to the Royal National Park.  Here you will be able to view the Amphitheatre and Northern parts of the Mountain, and the origin of the Tugela Waterfall. A pleasant hike can be done around this region.

And then there are hikes that one can do from the Montusi Mountain Lodge as well. Guests will also have time to just relax at the resort and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. The 2 day’s travel is flexible and done according to guest’s interests.

    Day 4: Wednesday 11 November

After breakfast, we return to Ladysmith. On the outskirts of the town is the well known Nambiti Private Game Reserve. We arrive at the reserve around 13h00 and check into the Springbok Lodge for the last 3 nights of the trip. Lunch will be served on arrival. After lunch, it is time to rest in the comfortable, air-conditioned tented chalets.  Around 15h30 it is time for the first game drive on an open vehicle. Nambiti is a Big 5 reserve. After sundown drinks in the bush, we return to the lodge for a relaxing dinner at the lodge.  It should be a good nature experience and start for this trip.

    Day 5 & 6: Thursday and Friday 12 & 13 November

These two days will be typical days on a private reserve, which include morning game drives, followed by breakfast, relaxation time, lunch and sunset game drives. On Saturday, after we had done the morning game drive, we will do a short drive out of the park towards the Spioenkop Battlefield which is only 40 km away. Here we will be met by a specialist battlefield guide who will do a detailed tour of this Battlefield with guests. We will also enjoy a picnic lunch at the battlefield and then visit the informative “Siege Museum” at Ladysmith before returning to Nambiti Reserve for a sunset drive.

    Day 7: Saturday 14 November

After a last morning’s game drive and breakfast, it is time to leave this beautiful region. We drive through more scenic areas and towns, over the van Reenen’s pass towards Gauteng.  Enjoy lunch on route home, and arrive home in the mid to late afternoon
