
Visiting Kimberley and Mokala National Park for an unique experience and then off to the Karoo to meet the Shy Five at night and visiting free roaming Tigers near Phillipolis in the Free State.
Day 1
We meet you at your front door early and we depart for the Northern Cape province. It is a long drive so we do breakfast on the way and will have every two to three hours convenience stops. We arrive in Kimberley in the afternoon and check in at the Kalahari lodge
Day 2
After a lekker breakfast we depart for the Kimberley mine museum and Big hole for a short tour. We stop in town to purchase Karoo chops etc for evening dinner in Mokala. Lunch at the museum
After lunch we depart for Sanparks Mokala reserve 70 Km’s from Kimberley. We arrive and check in for our first night under the stars. The accommodation is self-catering so depending on the weather, we braai or eat in.
Day 3
After an early breakfast, we explore this park for the day. We do picnic lunch somewhere in the park.
"Where Endangered Species Roam"...Mokala is SANParks' newest park. It is situated approximately 70km south-southwest of Kimberley, and west of the N12 freeway to Cape Town. Nestled in the hills, Mokala's landscape boasts a variety of koppieveld (hills) and large open plains. A total of 863 animals were moved from the old Vaalbos to Mokala. The Park is currently 19611ha in size and the following species occur in the park:
Black Rhino, White Rhino, Disease-free Buffalo, Tsessebe, Roan Antelope, Mountain Reedbuck, Giraffe, Gemsbok, Eland, Zebra, Red Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Black Wildebeest, Kudu, Ostrich, Steenbok, Duiker and Springbok.
Day 4
- After tea or coffee and rusks we depart to the Khoisan Karoo Conservancy for 3 nights with a stop in Orania for breakfast.
- Meet the Karoo shy five - Aardwolf, Aardvark, Black-Footed Cat, Porcupine and Bat-eared Fox.
- Arrival, welcome, and settle into your rooms.
- Sunset drive in our open safari vehicle to see the hippos and buffalo and enjoy the first course of our three-course dinner during a sundowner break.
- Return to New Holme lodge for dinner.
- Shy-Five-night drive to meet some or all the Shy Five-night nocturnal species – Aardwolf, Aardvark, Black-Footed Cat, Porcupine and Bat-eared Fox.
Day 5
- Enjoy coffee, rusks, and a morning birding drive, with snacks in the veld.
- Breakfast at the lodge.
- Experience our birding and game drive, followed by a veld braai. (BBQ in the bush)
- We return to the lodge after dark, using a spotlight on a night drive, and end the evening with a delicious Karoo farm pudding at the lodge.
Day 6
- Enjoy coffee and rusks before we set off on a 10 km drive followed by a 1 km walk to the Khoi etching. Snacks are included.
- Breakfast at the lodge.
- A game and birding drive is followed by sundowners and the first course of our evening meal on a hilltop.
- Dinner at the lodge.
- Enjoy a two-and-a-half-hour drive over 20km searching for the Shy Five.
Day 7
Depart after breakfast for a 3 – 4 hour safari drive with the tigers. where we will have the chance to observe tigers, cheetahs, and a wide variety of wildlife, all while learning about the conservation efforts with the tigers and cheetahs. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the reserve prepared by the Tiger Lodge before we head over to our Guesthouse for the night
Day 8
After our scrumptious breakfast, we start making our way back to Gauteng travelling towards Bloemfontein. Arriving in Johannesburg in the afternoon
